Keeping gutters clear from debris and blockages is essential to maintain proper outside drainage. When gutters become blocked, this can cause rainwater to overflow and run down the walls of buildings, where it can seep in and cause damage. Gutters can easily get blocked by leaves and twigs, especially a problem during autumn and winter with stronger winds. Additionally, moss dislodged by the weather or birds, roofing materials dislodged during harsh weather, even plant growth encouraged by the build-up of organic material in the gutters, can all lead to blockages. Build-up of Moss on the roof is not only unsightly, but left unchecked could end up costing money over time. This is particularly a problem in winter – moss traps a lot of moisture, and in freezing conditions this will expand and potentially cause cracked tiles, and generally damage the roof materials. Even in milder conditions, moss can act as a barrier to natural water run-off, which in heavy rain could cause water to collect underneath roof tiles, and lead to problems with damp.

Additionally, moss can be dislodged by birds, or by certain weather conditions, and cause blockages in gutters.

Solar Panels not adequately maintained will operate at a reduced efficiency. Generally speaking, in the UK we get enough rainfall that any dust build-up on solar panels gets washed away. However, other contaminants such as tree sap, soot and bird droppings can collect and prevent light from reaching the panels, and reduce power output. Not only this, but inadequate maintenance of solar panels may invalidate any warranty in place.
